Time travel is a drug.

It’s taken four hundred years, but Ryan Mitchell finally understands that his power over the time stream is actually his addiction. His craving to time travel is what locked the year 2012 into its unending loop in the first place, but after centuries of torture, he’s desperate for it to end.

But withdrawal has sunk its cruel claws into him, and it’s not letting go. Ryan must fight to escape the cycle. To do that, he’ll have to show the world the real Ryan Mitchell Student. Thief. Hero. Hermit. Heartbreaker.Time travel addict.

"The Jump Journal" is an intense, sci-fi story that follows a college freshman through romance, adventure, addiction, and most of all, time-travel. Young adults and new adults will love Ryan's snarky narration and humor. You won't be able to put it down!

My good and bad takes of this novel.

The good: 4 stars
- Solid writing. Excellent editor. I found no errors. Love it when a good editor is involved. Clean writing is a joy.
- Our Main Character, MC, is a hoot. Love that snarky voice. Excellent job of bringing that out. One of the many reasons I love first person writings.
- The time travel technique is solid. Reminds me A LOT of the early 90s show Quantum Leap: you can time travel within your lifetime only. Or in this case, “Minor” spoiler: within a year. Also reminds me of Ground Hogs’ Day: the movie. But…stretched into a year instead of a day.
- Very cool uses of time travel powers at times.
The bad: minus 1 star
- The flip side of the 1 year time loop: You can keep correcting your personal flaws. A year is a lot of time to delve into yourself and find yourself and redefine yourself. Sadly I didn’t see a lot of that happening. In fact…it took a very long time for our MC to find himself.
- Lottery tickets = no more money problems. EVER. Honestly, I found the chapters devoted to the lack of cash a very big disappointment…honestly, with time travel of his nature, winning the lottery is as easy as 1, 2, 3. You wait for the days drawing. You memorize the numbers. You go back 24 hrs and pick the winning numbers. Money issues are gone. Sure there are other problems that come with that. But that’s also a good side story idea that could have been used instead of what really happened during the book. Oh well.
- We all saw Edge of Tommorrow starring Tom Cruise or read the novel it was based upon: All You Need is Kill. Ok most of us. So really…he couldn’t devote 1 year or a few to refine his combat abilities? Sigh.

Over all I loved the book. If not for those weird logic flaws of the book, I would have given it a 5 star rating. It’s just I kept hitting those issues and just couldn’t look past them. Perhaps in his next sequel, if he writes one, he will deal with that. Or not.

Like I’ve told others: You write. I will buy.

The Jump Journal A New Adult SciFi Thriller eBook Douglas Corriveau Reviews

I enjoyed this book. There was nothing groundbreaking in the time travel theory, but it was fun. It felt a bit like there were too many potential stories hinted at but never developed...but perhaps that leaves room for the author to write some shorter tales in the universe he has created.
The only good parts are the begging and the end, and that is being kind, because I didn't really like the ending.
This book its a combination of "groundhog day" (movie) and some kind of drug addict rehabilitation diary. The main character is overly dramatic and half of the book his whining about his broken heart.

This book is slow and lacks excitement.
I was really impressed by this book. I love time-travel stories and Mr. Corriveau did an excellent job of keeping me enthralled. He lost me a little with his rubber-band theory (not a spoiler-read it to see what I'm referencing), but I kept coming back to finish this.
I tried very VERY hard to like this book. The story line was fresh and very imaginative. Unfortunately (for the reader) the author kept going off on tangents that added nothing but confusion. Initially I came to recognize that when he switched to italics (pages at a time) I could just skip those sections. Then he stopped using italics as a warning and I found myself getting bogged down in junk that was distracting me from the actual story. Half of the contents of the book should be deleted so the main story line has a chance to breath. I see the genuine talent this author has and look forward to his future work once he begins to focus more on quality instead of quantity. Less IS more bro.
This isn't just a time travel fantasy, it is a serious work of literature that is so well written I can hardly wait to see what Corriveau's next effort is like. The author's take on time travel is fascinating and is critical to the story. But it is more that that. If you like books with some depth to them, you will love this book. If "The Jump Journal' has any weakness, it would be in the number of typographical errors (missing punctuation and missing whole words, with a few malapropisms here and there). A good editor would help.. All in all, a good read and I highly recommend it.
I love any novel with time travel as a theme. I think that there is just so much that you can do with that and so many different interesting story lines that a talented author can put together. Douglas Corriveau has proven this for sure with "The Jump Journal", a super original story about a guy, Ryan, who is hopelessly addicted to time travel. This addiction has consequences and has locked him in an endless cycle of a particular year, one that he is now desperate to escape from. Wow. I may not have any experience with time travel but I have plenty with addiction and consequences so this one hit me right between the eyes. What a fantastic premise, a super interesting character and a great adventure. Well done.
Wow. This is an amazing novel for a first-time author. It is epic. It is addicting. This is a book for all time, for any reader teen and up. I am a grandma and I was spellbound. I could not put this down and kept reading into the night, as addicted to the book as its hero Ryan Mitchell is addicted to time travel. He spends four centuries reliving the same year, trying to get his life back on track, trying desperately to find the right combination of events or the right moment to start over and to find the love of his life who got lost when he chose time-jumping due to its addictive qualities. This is a coming of age novel that gets stuck in the same year, and yet the hero has a revelation unlike any other. This is a philosophical novel, and is more about the cognitive dissonance people experience in realizing they have made horrific mistakes that cost more than they wanted to pay. As Ryan jumps, and plays various roles such as crime-fighter, or even criminal, we learn more facets of his personality, and it all hangs together at the end with a surprising solution. I am amazed. I am amused. I am addicted. I am enlightened. I am waiting for this author's next work. Brilliant. (except for a few copy editing errors..)
